Education Funding
November BAC News
For the fourth consecutive year, the state of Colorado will cut education funding. Despite these funding cuts, our school district continues to receive national and state recognition for education excellence. District 38 has and will continue to provide quality education due to our strong community and our outstanding parent volunteers. Enrollment is on the rise, so hopefully our district will not be making any more budget reductions for declining enrollment. For more district news, attend the Board of Education meeting on December 15th at 6:00 PM or view meetings on line by going to the district website, selecting the BOE on the left, and then on the right side select the meeting you wish to view. Thank you, Georgina Gittins, BAC Chair

BAC News

BAC is the Building Advisory Committee. Each elementary school's BAC is represented by one officer, who is a parent representative, an additional parent representative, and one faculty member. BAC is a member of the District Accountability Advisory Committee or DAAC. DAAC meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00 PM, at a different school each month. The purpose of DAAC is "to make recommendations to the Board of Education relative to the Accountability and Colorado Accreditation Program." BAC members report to their school building at the PTO/BAC meetings. BAC members also attend Board of Education meetings. The Board of Education meetings are usually held the third Thursday of the month at Lewis Palmer Administration. Also, Board of Education meetings may be viewed online.
Our first DAAC meeting will be on Tuesday, September 13Th at 7:00 in the District Learning Center. We will plan our calendar and agenda for the school year. The DAAC calendar and agenda will be available on our school's BAC link. Also, DAAC will provide information to the community about November's Board of Education elections.

Thank you, Georgina Gittins, BAC Chairperson adoptd38@lewispalmer.org

What can we expect next school year for D38?
BAAC News

Another wonderful school year with no major changes. Class sizes will not increase. Calendar changes with later start date. No fee for busing. A minimal increase in student fees. Energy savings plans in place. Reduction in staff and expenses at D38 Administration.

The state funding cuts won't be as deep as first estimated by the state. D38 is expecting a $2.2 million state reduction in funding. The Board of Education is keeping cuts as far away from the classroom as possible. The preliminary budget will be presented at the May 19Th Board of Education meeting with board approval of the budget at the June meeting. All Board of Education meetings are streamed online. Watch online or come to the next BoE meeting to learn more about next school year's budget!
Thank you, Georgina Gittins, BAAC Chair
